This post features student writing.

Our first day of service was super exciting. We woke up at 7 for breakfast and walked to work at 8. Our big project is building a covered walkway for all of the teachers’ houses connecting to the school. Our day was centered around pushing wheelbarrows to move sand and rocks from the beach, mixing cement, digging holes, and putting wooden poles in those holes.

After work we got to play with the kids and have fun playing dancing games, duck duck goose, and sports. It was definitely a crazy jump into our new routine, but at the end of the day it was so awesome to see how much we accomplished our first day and to see the kids’ smiling faces waiting for us at the end.
