Meet the Leaders

JULIA STICKNEY
University of Vermont, B.S., Business Administration, minor in Spanish

While at The University of Vermont, Julia studied business with a concentration in marketing and a minor in Spanish. She took her studies abroad to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she fell in love with traveling and became proficient in Spanish. After graduation, Julia worked on the marketing team for a tech company in Denver and spent her weekends snowboarding and mountain biking in the mountains. After a few years in the corporate world, Julia decided to leave and spend more time traveling while rethinking what industry she wanted to be in. She has since backpacked through Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia and spent a significant amount of time in Brazil. Last summer Julia led both Community Service Fiji and Skiing in Patagonia.

TIM GHAZZAWI

Tim has spent much of his time in classrooms, serving as a teacher, coach, tutor, and mentor while a student at the University of Maryland, and since then in and around the Washington, D.C. area. After a college service trip to Ecuador, Tim founded the organization Bilingual Backpacks as a way to sustain and foster his relationship with an indigenous community he worked with there. Tim has returned to Ecuador three times with supplies for community-based projects that included the planting of a local garden and the formation of an after-school tutoring program. Tim currently serves as a Grade 6 English-Language Arts teacher at a middle school in Washington, D.C. He is proficient in Spanish and has led Putney community service programs in Ecuador and the Galápagos, Costa Rica, Peru, and Fiji.
